Kulwant Singh Sidhu on Monday criticised the BJP-led Union Government over the continuous rise in petrol and diesel prices, alleging that the increase in fuel costs has severely affected the common man and pushed household budgets under pressure.

Addressing a press conference in Ludhiana, the Atam Nagar MLA said inflation has “broken the back” of the public, with families struggling to manage daily expenses. He alleged that instead of providing relief during difficult economic conditions, the Centre has failed to control inflation and support ordinary citizens.

Sidhu said the rising diesel prices would have a major impact on farmers during the upcoming paddy season. He stated that cultivators would now have to spend more on tractors, tubewells, and other agricultural machinery dependent on diesel.

The MLA also warned that the hike in diesel prices would increase transportation costs, which could eventually raise the prices of vegetables, fruits, food grains, and other essential commodities in the market.

He added that farmers, labourers, middle-class families, and daily wage earners would be among the worst affected by the continuous fuel price hike. Sidhu demanded immediate intervention from the Union Government to provide relief to the public and curb inflation.
