Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain on Wednesday distributed 10 specially customized electric mobility vehicles to Divyangjan beneficiaries under Project UMEED, a district-level initiative aimed at empowering specially-abled individuals through enhanced mobility and livelihood opportunities.

The distribution ceremony took place in Ludhiana, where the district administration handed over the vehicles to beneficiaries selected under the project. The initiative was made possible through funding support from Vardhman Textiles Limited under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

NeoMotion, a company specializing in mobility solutions for persons with disabilities, designed and supplied the vehicles. The company customized each vehicle according to the physical dimensions and specific requirements of individual beneficiaries to ensure comfort, safety, and ease of use.

Each electric vehicle can travel at a maximum speed of 25 kmph on a full battery charge, enabling beneficiaries to commute independently for work, education, and daily activities.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Himanshu Jain said the initiative aims not only to provide mobility but also to create opportunities for economic independence. He noted that improved transportation would help specially-abled individuals access employment and livelihood opportunities more easily, allowing them to become self-reliant and actively participate in society.

The Deputy Commissioner appreciated Vardhman Textiles Limited for supporting the initiative and highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing social welfare and inclusive development.

Project UMEED, which stands for Uplifting Mission for Education and Empowerment of Divyangajans, continues to focus on creating an inclusive ecosystem for specially-abled persons in Ludhiana through interventions in education, empowerment, and livelihood generation.
