Unauthorized Colony Among Five Structures Razed by Ludhiana Civic Body

The Municipal Corporation (MC) Ludhiana intensified its crackdown on unauthorized development on Tuesday by taking action against five illegal constructions, including an under-construction colony, in areas falling under Zones A and D of the city.

Acting on the directions of MC Commissioner Dr. Neeru Katyal Gupta, civic body teams carried out demolition and sealing operations against structures that were being raised without the required approvals from the corporation.

In Zone A, a team led by Assistant Town Planner (ATP) Kapil Dev demolished an illegal colony under construction in Nanak Nagar, Karabara Basti. The officials also razed an unauthorized commercial building in the area and sealed another commercial structure found to be in violation of building regulations.

The enforcement drive also targeted an under-construction industrial building in Hira Nagar on Kakowal Road. MC officials demolished the structure after discovering that it was being built beneath high-tension electricity wires, creating a potential safety hazard.

Meanwhile, in Zone D, a team headed by ATP Raj Kumar and Building Inspector Kuljit Mangat demolished an illegal construction in Ghumar Mandi. Officials revealed that the civic body had taken action against the same building in May, but the owner resumed construction work despite the earlier demolition drive, prompting fresh action on Tuesday.

MC officials said the corporation would continue the drive against unauthorized constructions in the coming days to ensure compliance with building norms and urban planning regulations.

The civic body also urged residents and property owners to obtain approval of building plans before starting any construction work. Officials warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found violating the prescribed rules and regulations.
