The Ludhiana district administration has completed preparations for the house listing phase of Census 2027, with around 9,000 enumerators set to conduct a door-to-door survey across the district from May 15 to June 13. District Census Officer-cum-Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Poonam Singh announced the schedule on Wednesday and warned officials against negligence during the exercise.
In a video message, Singh said the house listing operation would serve as the foundation of the Census process and help the government prepare accurate data for welfare schemes, development planning, and policy implementation. She said enumerators would collect information through a detailed 33-point questionnaire covering housing conditions, household amenities, ownership status, and family composition.
The survey teams will record details related to drinking water, electricity, sanitation, cooking fuel, and the condition and structure of houses. Officials will also gather information about assets such as mobile phones, internet access, and vehicles to create a comprehensive database for future planning.
Singh urged residents to cooperate with the enumerators and provide correct information during the survey period. She stressed that accurate data collection remained essential for effective governance and targeted delivery of public welfare benefits.
The ADC also directed Census staff and field officials to follow timelines strictly and perform their duties with sincerity and discipline. She said the administration would take strict action against any employee found negligent or derelict in duty, adding that legal provisions allow imprisonment of up to three years along with financial penalties for violations.
