The District Administration Ludhiana, led by Deputy Commissioner IAS Himanshu Jain, has intensified efforts to safeguard vulnerable areas along the Sutlej River, with construction of a temporary ring bandh in Sasrali Colony progressing on a war footing. The move comes as part of precautionary measures to reinforce the existing Dhussi Bandh, which continues to withstand heavy pressure despite erosion at a few points.

Over the past two days, DC Jain and senior officials have been stationed in Sasrali to supervise flood protection works. The ring bandh, being raised approximately 500 meters from the main Dhussi Bandh, is designed to add an extra layer of security for residents in the colony and nearby villages. The initiative is being executed jointly by the Indian Army, NDRF, PWD, drainage department and local villagers, with construction materials and manpower deployed round the clock.

In his latest statement, Deputy Commissioner Jain confirmed that no breach has occurred in the Dhussi Bandh so far, though some soil erosion has been reported. He reiterated that the administration, along with multiple agencies, is fully prepared to deal with any eventuality. “The new temporary ring bandh is a precautionary step to further ensure the safety and security of residents,” he said. Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian and senior officials from district administration , police and other departments are also present on the site.

Earlier in the day, Jain also urged citizens not to pay heed to rumours circulating on social media about a breach in the Dhussi Bandh. He emphasized that the district administration is maintaining strict vigil and has put in place comprehensive arrangements, including relief centres, essential supplies, and a district-level flood control room at helpline number 0161-2433100.

The Dhussi Bandh, a critical embankment protecting Ludhiana’s low-lying areas, has been under severe strain this week following a rise in Sutlej waters. Teams of the administration, Army, and villagers have been engaged 24x7 in strengthening the structure. Late last night, DC Jain, SDM Baljinder Singh Dhillon,SDM Jasleen Kaur Bhullar, Secretary RTA  Kuldeep Bawa and other officials supervised operations personally at the site, ensuring coordinated action.
