Udaan takes flight: How a school band is giving limbs and lives — a second chance

When Aditya Pahwa, a Grade 12 student at Sacred Heart Convent International School, founded a music band with his friends in 2025, he carried with him a simple but powerful belief: that talent finds its true purpose when used in service of others.
That belief gave birth to Udaan, a band comprising Aditya alongside Anahitaa Jain, Uddhav Kapoor, Amaya Sahni, Trishir Aggarwal and Krishnav Pahwa. Together, they have turned their passion for music into a movement that is quietly and meaningfully transforming lives.
Music With a Mission
Rather than limiting themselves to performances and applause, Udaan has channelled its platform into fundraising for a cause that goes far beyond the stage. The band has been supporting underprivileged and specially abled individuals by facilitating access to high-quality, Indian-made prosthetic limbs built on advanced German technology. Lightweight and designed for improved mobility and comfort, these limbs are offering beneficiaries not just physical support, but renewed independence.
Over the past year, the band has organised three prosthetic limb camps, each one extending this promise of mobility to individuals who would otherwise have little means to access such care.
400 Runners, One Shared Purpose
On 5 April 2026, Udaan took its mission beyond the concert hall and onto open ground. The band organised a 5K Run for a Cause at Rajgadh Estate, which drew participation from more than 400 people. Among those who ran were several previous beneficiaries of Udaan's prosthetic limb camps, individuals who, thanks in part to the band's efforts, were able to join the run as a living symbol of resilience and hope.
A Camp That Will Change 25 Lives in July
Most recently, on 10 June 2026, Udaan collaborated with Act Humane and the Do Good Foundation to organise a prosthetic limb assessment camp. Supported entirely through funds raised from the band's music performances and the 5K run, the camp saw more than 25 individuals register and provide measurements for prosthetic limbs. The limbs are scheduled to be fitted and delivered in July 2026, a date that many of those 25 individuals are no doubt counting down to.
A Blueprint for Youth-Led Change
What Udaan has built in just over a year is more than a band. It is a blueprint for how young people can convert creative energy into concrete social impact. Through the harmonious blend of music, compassion and community support, these students have demonstrated that meaningful change does not wait for adulthood.
For Udaan, every performance is a fundraiser, every rupee raised is a step restored, and every limb delivered is proof that talent, when directed outward, can truly take flight.
