The All India Cycle Manufacturers Association (AICMA) is all set to host its 4th AICMA Awards Ceremony on Saturday (August 30th) at Ludhiana. The program is a landmark celebration that will recognize excellence, honor innovation, and chart the course for the future of India’s cycling industry. More than an award function, the event is being hailed as a platform that unites leaders of the bicycle industry to discuss sustainable growth, export opportunities, and cycling’s role in promoting a healthier and greener India.
The press conference ahead of the ceremony featured eminent figures including Padma Shri awardee Onkar Singh Pahwa, Chairman of Avon Cycles; Gaurav Munjal, Managing Director, Kross Bikes; S.K. Rai, MD, Hero Cycles; Dr. K.B. Thakur, Secretary General, AICMA and G.S. Dhillon, MD, Udan Media & Communications Pvt. Ltd. Their insights reinforced the industry’s strong potential to shape India’s sustainable mobility future.
Industry Leaders Call for Innovation and Global Competitiveness
Speaking on the ocassion, Onkar Singh Pahwa said that the awards reflect the industry’s resilience and ability to adapt. “Innovation and quality remain the cornerstones of India’s growing global presence,” he said, adding that the recognition is a tribute to these values.
Gaurav Munjal underlined the industry’s transformation at a time when the government is pushing eco-friendly transport and citizens are embracing fitness. He noted that exports of cycles from India could see unprecedented growth, provided manufacturers strengthen supply chains, upgrade technology, and meet international standards.
S.K. Rai of Hero Cycles highlighted cycling’s rising cultural and social significance. “Cycling is no longer just about mobility—it’s about fitness, sustainability, and healthy lifestyles,” he remarked, stressing collective industry efforts to inspire more people to adopt cycling.
Promoting Cycling as Green Mobility
Dr. K.B. Thakur reiterated AICMA’s commitment to safeguarding manufacturers’ interests while positioning India as a hub for high-quality, globally competitive bicycles.
Adding a marketing perspective, Pallavi Gupta, Head of Marketing at Hero Cycles, said, “We don’t just market bicycles; we market the benefits of cycling. Media has a responsibility to sensitize society and policymakers towards cycling as a green and healthy mobility tool.”
G.S. Dhillon, MD of Udan Media, added that the partnership with AICMA extends beyond events, reflecting a shared vision of innovation, awareness, and sustainable mobility.
