In a major strike against drug trafficking and distribution networks, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized nearly 9 kg of narcotic substances valued at around ₹40 crore in the international market. The seizure took place during a coordinated operation codenamed “Rainbow” in Delhi.
Acting on specific intelligence regarding the smuggling of cocaine in small quantities concealed inside soft toys and sent through domestic courier networks, DRI officials in New Delhi conducted search operations across multiple premises in Mehrauli, a densely populated area of the capital.
The operation led to the recovery of 3,095.5 grams of cocaine, 4,421 grams of hashish, 1,305.5 grams of MDMA tablets, and 46 grams of amphetamine. A significant portion of the narcotics was found in the form of tablets and small pouches, indicating readiness for distribution.
During the searches, one individual was apprehended under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Initial investigation points to the involvement of an international syndicate, with foreign nationals in Delhi suspected of using courier services for concealment, trafficking, and distribution of narcotics.
The DRI stated that further investigations are in progress. The operation once again highlights the agency’s continued efforts in combating the menace of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in India.
