The Punjab Mid-Day Meal Society organized a comprehensive one-day training workshop at the Government Primary School, PAU, on Wednesday to enhance the nutritional standards and hygiene practices of school meal preparation.
School headmistress Sumanpreet confirmed that approximately 30 cooks from the region participated in the session. The event saw high-level oversight from the Punjab State Food Commission, with Chairman Bal Mukand Sharma and Member Chetan Prakash Dhaliwal attending to monitor the progress of the state’s flagship feeding program.
Academic experts from Punjab Agricultural University, including Dean Kiran Bains and Dr. Monika Verma, led the instructional segments. They motivated the workers to uphold rigorous cleanliness standards while preparing and serving meals to ensure student safety.
A significant portion of the workshop focused on the traditional preparation of kaanji, a fermented rice water gruel. The experts educated the staff on the specific health advantages of this probiotic-rich drink, emphasizing how its inclusion in the daily menu can significantly improve the digestive health and immunity of the children.
The session concluded with a collaborative review involving District Mid-Day Meal In-charge Davinder Kaur and Block Level In-charge Jagjit Singh. Their presence underscored the administrative commitment to implementing these improved culinary and sanitary practices across all local schools immediately.
