Punjab’s government education sector has witnessed unprecedented and historic changes since the Aam Aadmi Party assumed power in 2022, Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian said on Saturday while addressing a Mega Parents–Teachers Meeting at government schools in Jamalpur Awana.

The minister said the state government has placed the wellbeing and future of students at the centre of its education policy and has taken consistent steps to upgrade government schools to match the standards of leading private institutions. He stated that improving infrastructure, teaching quality, and student exposure has remained a top priority.

Highlighting key reforms, Mundian said the government is developing Schools of Eminence across Punjab as centres of excellence equipped with smart classrooms, modern computer and science laboratories, libraries, playgrounds for multiple sports, CCTV surveillance, proper sanitation facilities, and safe drinking water systems.

He further said that the government has been organising regular educational tours and exposure visits to historical sites, science centres, institutions, and industries to help students gain practical knowledge beyond textbooks. He added that the Business Blasters Programme has been introduced to nurture entrepreneurial thinking among students at an early stage.

The minister also informed that the government has strengthened teacher capacity by sending principals and teachers for advanced training programmes at reputed foreign institutions. These international exposure visits aim to familiarise educators with global teaching practices, technology-based learning, and student-centric education methods.

Sharing public response to the reforms, Mundian said admissions in government schools across Punjab have recorded a sustained rise, reflecting increasing trust among parents in the quality of education being offered. He said the government had promised to make government schools the first choice of parents, and the results show that this goal is gradually becoming a reality.
