CBI Arrests Income Tax Office Superintendent In ₹5,000 Bribery Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended an Office Superintendent of the Income Tax Office in Bhadrak, Odisha, after allegedly catching him red-handed while accepting a bribe from a complainant on Tuesday.

According to the CBI, the case was registered on June 3 based on a complaint alleging that the accused official had demanded ₹5,000 to process the deletion of a duplicate Permanent Account Number (PAN) card belonging to the complainant.

Acting on the complaint, the agency laid a trap and intercepted the Office Superintendent while he was allegedly accepting ₹4,000 as part of the demanded bribe amount. The accused was subsequently apprehended by the CBI team.

Officials said the operation was conducted on the same day the complaint was received, leading to the swift arrest of the accused public servant.

The CBI has launched a detailed investigation into the matter to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the alleged bribery demand and transaction. Further investigation is underway.
