The Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Jalandhar Zonal Office has provisionally attached immovable property worth ₹2.76 crore belonging to Punjab government Patwari Chamkaur Lal, the agency said in an official statement.

According to ED, the attachment was carried out on 28 November 2025 under the provisions of the Prevention of Money-Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.

The money-laundering probe was initiated on the basis of an FIR registered by the Vigilance Bureau, Punjab, under Sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, relating to disproportionate assets allegedly amassed by Lal during the check period from 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2023.

ED’s investigation revealed that while serving as a Patwari in Dera Bassi and Kharar tehsils, Lal allegedly accumulated assets far exceeding the legitimate income of himself and his family. The agency stated that these assets were identified as Proceeds of Crime, which were subsequently invested in both movable and immovable properties.

The agency further said that its investigation showed Lal routed illicit funds into bank accounts held by him and his family members, presenting the money as loans from relatives and acquaintances in an attempt to disguise the true source of the funds.

According to ED, the probe established that Lal had acquired disproportionate assets amounting to approximately ₹2.76 crore, linked to scheduled offences under the PMLA.

The agency added that further investigation is ongoing.
