The Federation of Industrial & Commercial Organizations (FICO), in collaboration with the Ludhiana District Cycling Association, celebrated World Bicycle Day on Tuesday by organizing a 35-kilometre cycle rally in Ludhiana. More than 70 cyclists participated in the event, which aimed to promote cycling as a healthy, affordable, and environmentally friendly mode of transportation.

The rally commenced from Bombay Cycle Store on Pakhowal Road and drew cycling enthusiasts from across the city. FICO leaders and participants also cut a cake to mark the occasion and spread awareness about the benefits of cycling.

Addressing the gathering, Jasmanpreet Singh, owner of Bombay Cycle Store, extended his greetings on World Bicycle Day and announced plans to organize a 100-kilometre cycling ride next year to further encourage people across Punjab to adopt cycling.

FICO President Gurmeet Singh Kular highlighted the significance of World Bicycle Day, which the United Nations officially recognized in 2018. He said the observance encourages people to adopt eco-friendly transportation systems that reduce pollution and promote better health. He emphasized that regular cycling helps people stay active while contributing to a cleaner environment.

Speaking on the occasion, FICO Chairman K.K. Seth described the bicycle as a simple, reliable, and sustainable means of transport that symbolizes human progress and environmental responsibility. He also urged bicycle manufacturers to focus on developing products that meet global market demands and changing consumer preferences.

FICO General Secretary Manjinder Singh Sachdeva called upon people to make cycling a regular habit. He noted that cycling improves cardiovascular health, strengthens the heart and lungs, and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, noise pollution, and traffic congestion.

The event concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to promoting cycling as a sustainable lifestyle choice and an effective tool for improving both public health and environmental well-being.
