In a major breakthrough, the Ludhiana Commissionerate Police and Counter Intelligence Punjab jointly foiled a planned targeted shooting operation by arresting two alleged operatives linked to a transnational terror-gangster nexus. The accused were apprehended near the Hardy’s World area in Ludhiana with three illegal pistols and 11 live cartridges in their possession, police said on Monday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Anuraj alias Gaurav Masih and Ankush, both residents of Phillaur in Jalandhar district. Police recovered two .30 bore pistols, one .315 bore pistol, and impounded a Bajaj CT 100 motorcycle without a registration number that was allegedly being used for criminal activities.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were acting under the directions of foreign-based handlers operating from Germany and Dubai, UAE. He said the duo had been assigned high-profile targeted shootings and their timely arrest prevented potentially serious criminal incidents in Punjab.
The DGP added that further investigations are underway to trace the forward and backward linkages of the network and identify other associates connected to the syndicate.
Commissioner of Police Ludhiana Swapan Sharma said the operation was conducted after the CIA Staff and Counter Intelligence Ludhiana received specific intelligence inputs about two armed individuals waiting near Hardy’s World to execute a sensational crime. Acting swiftly, police teams established a naka within the jurisdiction of Police Station Ladowal and carried out a tactical raid to apprehend the suspects.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to being active members of an organised transnational criminal syndicate being operated directly by foreign handlers. Police said the overseas handlers had arranged high-grade weapons for the operatives and assigned them specific high-value targets.
Police also revealed that Ankush is a habitual offender and had previously been booked in an attempt to murder case registered at Police Station Goraya.
A case FIR No. 91 dated May 17, 2026, has been registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act and Section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Ladowal in Ludhiana.
